Early in my career, I had a supervisor who kept telling me to “dream bigger.”
Honestly, I was confused. I thought I already was dreaming big.
Then I was given an assignment to organize what was described as a once-in-a-lifetime event. I worked hard, pulled together all the details, and proudly presented my plan.
His response? “Dream bigger.”
I was upset. Annoyed. Frustrated. I felt like my effort wasn’t being seen.
But instead of defending my work, I went back to the drawing board. I pushed past what felt safe and familiar. I thought outside the box. It was uncomfortable and honestly a little scary.
When I presented the revised idea, he smiled and said: “Yes. Now you’re thinking bigger.”
That moment changed how I approach goals, ideas, and opportunities.
So let me ask you: What are you not dreaming big enough about?
The next job you want to land
The next client you want to pursue
Your goals for 2026
Here are some ways to start dreaming bigger:
1️⃣ Remove the “how” (for now). Stop limiting your vision by logistics, budget, or timing. Dream first. Figure out the how later.
2️⃣ Challenge your first idea. Your first plan is usually the comfortable one. Ask yourself: What would this look like if I pushed it 10x further?
3️⃣ Get comfortable being uncomfortable. Big dreams often feel awkward before they feel exciting. That discomfort is a sign you’re growing.
Now is the time to dream bigger because growth doesn’t come from staying where you already fit.
