When a community invests in you, the greatest honor is to invest right back

My journey began in the U.S. Virgin Islands, surrounded by strong family values and a deep sense of community. Those roots prepared me for the next chapter of my life, enrolling at Austin Peay State University.

Like many students leaving home for the first time, I arrived with big dreams and plenty of uncertainty. What I found at APSU was more than an education. I found a community.

Professors and staff members believed in me, encouraged me, and supported me through every stage of my growth. They saw my potential before I fully saw it myself.

Because of their investment, I gained more than a degree. I gained confidence, leadership skills, and a strong foundation for my career and life.

Today, I am where I am because someone chose to pour into me.

That is why giving back is personal for me.

Serving, mentoring, and investing my time and resources into the university is my way of honoring those who helped shape my journey. I believe that when you are lifted, you have a responsibility to lift others.

Three Ways to Give Back to the Community That Gave to You

If you’re looking for ways to make an impact, here are three simple but powerful ways to start:

1. Give Your Time
Volunteer, mentor, serve on boards, or support local programs. Your presence and experience can make a lasting difference.

2. Share Your Knowledge
Speak to students, host workshops, offer internships, or provide career guidance. Your story can inspire someone who is just starting their journey.

3. Invest Your Resources
Support scholarships, programs, events, or initiatives, financially or in-kind. Even small contributions can open big doors for others.

Because when a community invests in you, the greatest honor is to invest right back.
